Me Stating The Way It Is, Again

So I decided I am doing an attitude shift. I have this reluctance to give in to the old and mom-ish lifestyle, you know, two kids, driving the SUV, seldom wearing high hills, dressing like a "mom", etc. I was thinking about it and what does that even mean? "mom-ish" I think in a society and world that is surrounded by being attracted to the young, hip, anti-mom appearance that we maybe try to escape it or avoid it for as long as we can. However there is nothing I would rather be. I am where I am because I chose it. And I chose it for a very good reason, because it rocks. My mother in law always says this is the best time of our lives and I buy it. So I am going to try to no longer stray away from the things that are anti momish and just continue to focus on my family and being who I am. I wish everyone else would too. If the people around us don't accept it and are drawn to the opposite than that is their loss and I won't let it be mine. My role is more important that the superficial things that Satan and society tells us is important. I hung out with the girls today and I tell you what, I never have seen a more wholesome beautiful group of girls. We are each where we are because we chose it and we should embrace it no matter the lack of money, glamor, makeup, six pack or chest and if those people around us are too superficial to appreciate it to hell with them not us.

Wow--let it all out sister! I agree there is definitely that superficial craze these days, and it's hard, because even around some friends I feel the need to be all dressed up and such because I feel like those certain people are going to take note of what I am wearing, and that I need to present myself in some sort of way,--not that I don't get all dressed everyday--but you know what I mean--kind of annoying, and exhausting!I hate for the focus to be on such non important things--ya know. It IS for sure awesome to be a mom!--I love to read your candid posts--

Okay, I just erased my big long schpeel comment because I shouldn't get so riled up on this issue. But all I will say is I couldn't agree more. I will add a small observation that I think the majority of the mom problem is in Utah and we need to not worry so much about what is cool and not cool and just be ourselves and feel good about that. That is a lot more mellow than my previous comment! And I love my mini van - if you have two small spastic toddlers you will understand why.

I'm not in that world so I don't understand it all, but I will say that I think you have it all figured out! And that is all that matters.

I know a lot of people feel passionate about this issue and i'm sure we're all on the same page here so I think I may post something about it on my blog also rather than say everything here. There was a talk in general conference that said we need to enjoy living in these moments - enjoy taking care of our kids. i'll try to find it. but i'm with ya sister!

Amen!! It is funny how distracted we get with the petty things in life. All that matter's is if you and your family are happy and healthy!
